These are the results of my test. The precentage of correct answer was around 66 percent. I think that my artwork does clearly represent me, because i did have some thing that people in my class might not even know. Most of the questions, that i found easy to answer, were correct. One media was too hard for anyone, because there is no possible way of anyone knowing the answer. That was about my background. The asnwer was that it reminded me of something, but i didnt tell anyone about it so no one can know.

Criterion E

Criterion A: Investigation
For the investigation, we were supposed to write the process of how we started out our artwork. We had to include the media for the artwork we were going to use, how the medias represent us, how we edited our photos on the editing programs online.
I basically wrote all of these things that we should have done. Maybe i could have tried to make it more specific or detailed. I also could have spent more time on describing the editing of my photos, because i think that i started off talking about the artwork and nothing to do with IT.

Criterion B: Design
In Design, we were supposed to make a range of designs, about 4 or more to get a good grade, write out design specifications - the ones we wrote in class and some of our own, and then evaluate each picture to the design specifications. We also were meant to write why we chose the final picture that we chose.
I had 4 different designs, some of which i had to do after picking the final one i was going to use for the project. After doing the designs i wrote my designs specifications and evaluated each design to the specifications and i think i clearly stated why i chose my final work.
I could have spent more time on the evaluation to the design specifications, but overall i think that i did a good job on those.

Criterion D: Create
For create, we were meant to write up the process of how we did our artwork. We should include some problems or difficulties we had while writing, what we learnt, and similar questions like these.
I think that i answered all of the questions or most of them that were there. I tried to include the whole process that i went through with a lot of details.
I think that if i could improve on writing the process more detailed and organized. After writing around 500 words i realized i wanted to add something to it, but i could add it to the place i wanted to so i had to put it later in the text. That's why it is pretty unorganized.

Presentation
For the presentation, i think i talked about everything that was mentioned on the grading criteria sheet we got. I think i could have went into more depth with the process of how i got my artwork, but looking back at everyone else's presentations, no one really went that deep either. No one had any questions, because i probably answered everything during the presentation. Kyu had the only question i think, but he started talking about all my hidden meaning that i didn't even notice, which took him like 5 minutes, but it was funny. I never thought that anyone could come up with so many hidden meaning in my artwork except for me, but Kyu just had way too many ideas....ha ha. I think that the only problem or the thing i could have improved on is talking in more depth about the process and things, but i don't think it was necessary, because it would take at least 30 minutes to explain the process, which none of us had. I briefly talked about what being a risk taker means to me, but again not in much depth. It would take too much time to explain everything. I explained all the meanings of the medias i used and i hope i explained it clearly. I talked about how my test went and if it was accurate. I do think that my test was pretty accurate. One thing i forgot to mention there was the result of my testing were 66 percent correct, so i think that justifies how correct or accurate my test is. I would say for testing an artwork on how different medias represent us that was quite good result. I also could have talked about what kind of questions i asked during my test, but it was basically questions on how this media represents me oh how this part of the artwork represents me, so there werent any special questions that have nothing to do with my artwork there.

Criterion D

After tracing my final picture on paper, we started working on it in art class. At that point i still didn't decide what media i should use, so for about ten minutes of thinking i came up with some media i could use. Ms. Sudra has yellow sticks, which i thought would be good for my hair. She then helped me decide how to do my background also. She said that i could use a sponge to give it the same effect as on the photo. When i actually got to doing that part of the work the sponges weren't available so i used a small towel. After finishing the background i painted the soles of my shoes black and printed each side of the shoe next to my head. The shoes were basketball shoes. I painted half of my face black and decided to leave the other half white. When i first thought about doing that i didn't know how that could represent me, but when i thought about it, it shows that i am kind of half black as in race. I lived in Africa for 2 years, i listen to hip-hop mostly and i like basketball. I am not trying to stereotype races of people, but usually when people think of someone who listens to hip-hop, the person would be black. If you think of the best basketball players in the world, they are black. So that is the reason for half of my face being black. For my shirt, again with Ms. Sudra's help, i chose to do the flags of the countries i lived in so far - China, Czech Republic, Zimbabwe, and Mongolia. I finished most of the artwork by now, i just need to finish the painting of the flags. I didn't come across any problems during the time i was working on it, except for not knowing what media to use. I still want to decide what to use for the other half of my face, if i will use anything, because i accidentally painted a bit of my face, the white part, blue so i could leave it like that, paint it white, or find another media i could use. I don't really want to use another media, because i think the black and white face looks pretty good and there is nothing else i could find that might represent me that i can put on that might look good.

29/09/09
Last art class on Friday, i finished my final artwork. I think it took me 3-4 art classes, which might seem like a short time compared to other students, but i don't think i needed to spend a lot of time on it. The medias weren't anything complicated, so maybe that's why it didn't take a long time. I think that i learnt or experienced using different media and that using all of them together might not look that bad. I usually thought that using variations of medias in one artwork was a bad idea, because it would ruin the whole work, but now i know that i doesn't. It actually is something new and looks good, unless you overuse medias. I think that my work is a lot different from any other students work, because some people i saw used completely different medias, and some people, according to me overused the medias and made it too crazy. The easiest part i think was to paint the black part of my face. The hardest part, not actually that hard, was probably painting in the flags, because i had to be accurate on the detailed parts for the Mongolian flag for example. Ms. Sudra helped me a lot, she gave me ideas for my background and shirt, which is most of the artwork. I didn't make any changes in the artwork, only using different media for my background and instead of printing out the flags of countries and gluing them on i drew them and painted them. If i were supposed to describe my artwork, it wouldn't be so hard, because it probably would be easy to picture, since it is nothing unusual or crazy. I would probably say picture a guy with blond hair, but change the hair to yellow wooden sticks. Then i would describe the colors i used, which isn't that hard to picture. I would not be able to help him/her picture the print of my shoes exactly, but kind of an abstract view of where the shoes are. I wasn't inspired by any artists, because the PowerPoint we watched from Ms. Sudra had complicated medias like chocolate, sugar or string. I would use these medias, but for me it is too messy to use and if i make a mistake, which shouldn't be hard to do, i would have to start over or deal with it, but if i did make a mistake i wouldn't like my artwork anymore, which would make me want to do another one. Overall i think that this project was quite fun, because we first of all could pick how we want to do the artwork and what media to use to make it. The IT part was also fun, because i have always loved editing photos on the computer, especially using Photoshop. I would recommend for teachers to extend this project a bit more and maybe do sequels to these works or just have more pictures, because i think that this project was kind of rushed and we didn't get to spend too much time on it so maybe by doing more artworks would give us more results and we might have a different view of the project. I would definitely like to do another project like this, especially if they are interdisciplinary projects. Working on the same thing in two classes is according to me better, because we wont forget what we did and we are working on the same project, but doing something different in each class at the same time. I think that this project will be good to use for the next years grade ten and hopefully they will like it as much as i did.

Criterion B

Design Specifications

- multi media

- technology

-photo of self

-express self

-Shouldn't go lower than hips

-Should look a lot different from the original photo

-Shouldn't be changed too much so you can recognize the person

-Color of the whole photo should be altered at least a little bit

Design 1

IT used multi media, technology was used and it is a photo of me. It expresses me showing that i like basketball and thats about it. It does not go lower than the hips. Looks a lot different from the original photo, which i cant access now so i will add it later. It is not changed too much so it is easy to recognize me. The color is change from colored to black and white. This is the picture i chose to be my final design and the picture i want to draw in art. It fits the design specifications perfectly and i liked it the most out of all the other altered pictures. It also most represents me, because of the basketball. Design 4 is similar to this one. I would have picked it, but i would have to use too many different medias and then it wouldn't look nice.

Design 2

It used multi media, technology was used and it is a photo of me. It expresses me in a way showing that i like to go out and have fun with my friends. It does go lower than hips, but i am sitting so it would be ok. It does look a lot different from the original photo, especially the color. If it was changed even more it would be too much so that is the limit to how much altered my photos should be. The colors are altered a lot and it looks nice.

Design 3

This design has used only one media, coloring it all yellow. It is a photo of self and used technology. It doesn't really express myself at all. I doesn't go lower than the hips. It doesn't look too different from the original photo, only the color is changed to yellowish but nothing else. It is easy to recognize myself. The color is fully altered.

Design 4

It used different medias, it is a photo of self and technology was used. It expresses me, because i love basketball and shows that i can palm the ball which was my goal for a long time. It is lower than hips. It is similar to the original and isn't too much altered so i can recognize myself. The color is black and white. I wanted to use this picture as my final one, but when i thought about how much media i would have to use i decided to do design 1.

Criterion A

Today in IT class we were taking our photos, photos that somehow represent us, and using them for our new project - Portraiture Technology. This project is also mixed with our art class. We took the photos, because we will be "playing" with them on different photo programs. The best program is Photoshop, but for now we are going to use online programs like picnik.com or flauntr.com, because Photoshop is not installed on our computers yet. On the day we were taking pictures, I had no idea what I was going to do, so I waited till everyone was done with their pictures, and then I still didn't decide what I was going to do. Elise and Sonya then had an idea what I could do. They went to get 2 basketballs from Mr. Ricketts. The photo represents me, because I love basketball and also the picture looked like a picture of an actor in One Tree Hill, which is an awesome TV show. For the homework, I didn't do it, because there was a problem with the name of the picture and the actual picture. They got mixed up, so I sent pictures of someone else to my email. I could have chosen some of my pictures from facebook, but those didn't really represent me in any way, because they were just plane, boring pictures. The reason why we are doing this is to do one unit in two classes. In IT we will just modify the picture using the programs I mentioned earlier and in art we will make an artwork using materials that represent us. Ms. Wilson showed us her artwork and she used nail polish, because she loves nail polish. She also cut out small pieces of newspaper that actually mean something to her, like an article on Venus Williams, because that's her idol. So we will be doing these things in these two classes for now. For the It part of the project, I never used any online photo editors, so this is completely new to me. I used a lot of adobe, because my old teacher in Zimbabwe used to love adobe and made us work with it for so long. I really wanted to use adobe on this, because it is the best program for these types of projects. I looked at other peoples edited photos and I wasn’t really impressed. Not that they were bad, just that they were basically the same photos just the saturation, contrast and colors were changed. In adobe, when I play with photos, I always liquefy the photos and then us all the things that are available to me. When i am going to start editing my photo i will try to make it quite interesting and fun to look at. Again, i never used these online photo editors so i dont know what to expect and what tools i will be able to use. I hope it is a lot like photoshop or atleast most of the fun thigns in photoshop.

Now i finished editing my photo. The programs are kind of primitiv, but i didnt expect anything like photoshop anyways. I used almost all the editing options there were, but it didnt make any big changes. I just changed the saturation, contrast and strength. For the AOI, i think that we used Human Ingenuity, because we actually created a piece of work. Part of the work was taking the picture and the other part was midifying it. We could modify it in any way we wanted to. The creation is a work of art made of any media we chose. This is the only AOI i think we used.

10/09/09

Today we are starting to draw our edited photos on paper. Badmaa is drawing her picture first so now i am waiting until she is done. I decided to not draw the complete picture, just the part on top of the basketball, because it is too much and i only want my face there.

15/09/09

Test

After finishing the project, i will ask atleast 3 people to look at my final work and tell me why they think i used a certain material. Basically, if i used yellow sticks for my hair the person might answer that i used it because my hair is blond, which is right. Another example, i will use 4 flags of the countries that i lived in and make it my shirt. So the person should answer that i used the flags, because i lived in those countries. If people guess atleast more than 50 percent of the questions right, then i think my artwork passed my test. If the people get less than i must have chosen materials that either dont really represent me or i never told anyone i like something that i used.

For the research, for art we researched 2 artists. One mixed media artist and one portrait artist. I chose Van Gogh and the portrait artist and Jim McNitt does mixed media. After writing a short description of the artists life, we picked a picture for each artist and described it in any way we can (composition, color, media, etc.)

I think that the sources that i have done by Ms. Sudra are completely reliable. This time i trust wikipedia, because the person cited all of his work. The picture sources, i believe, are also reliable, because the Van Gogh picture i already know what it looks like so it cannot be wrong and the Jim McNitt picture is on wikipedia with the sources cited.

In the actual artwork in art class, i decided to use 3-4 different types of media. For my hair and eyebrows, i will use small wooden sticks. For a part of my face i will use paint and make it all black and the other part of the face i am not sure yet......probably sand, but i dont know where to get it. For the background i am going to use a sponge dipped in blue paint to give it a unusual look like on the picture and after that i am going to dip my basketball shoe in black paint and make a shoe print on each side of my face, but not on the face. For my shirt i will have 4 different flags of the countries that i have lived in - China, Czech Republic, Zimbabwe and Mongolia. For the mouth i will use colored red sticks and my eyes wont have anything at all.

A portrait is an artwork that is on a person. It could be a self-portrait, which is the artist painting himself/herself. A portrait is usually an artist drawing someone else. As our old art teacher used to say "For something to be a portrait, it needs to have atleast one eye in it."
